Does HIIT Increase Testosterone and HGH?

man and HGH

If you are looking to lose weight, add some lean muscle, have more energy and improve your general well-being, then you should probably pay attention to your Human Growth Hormone Levels.

Those are some of the main reasons that got me interested in looking into how I could increase my HGH levels naturally with High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT).

In this article we will look the importance of Human Growth hormone and Testosterone and to see if High Intensity Interval training can really increase your levels especially as you get older.

Is HGH an Anti Aging Miracle?

From Visually.

You see, the question of ‘ Does HIIT increase testosterone and hgh’ wasn’t one that I ever bothered to ponder in my younger years.

Anyone reading this in their late teens and twenties is hopefully taking advantage of their finely tuned machines running on a potent mixture of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) and testosterone fueled nitrous injection.

For anyone like me approaching forty years of age and on wards though, it feels like we are being drip fed the stuff through misfiring carburetors.

I could attempt to bring back my youth by going on a HGH or Testosterone cycle which would involve injecting needles in my jacksy, but:

  1. Its expensive.
  2. Injecting myself doesn’t sound like a good time.
  3. I would constantly be worried about the long list of possible side effects.

A safer, more natural way is through short bouts of intense exercise such as High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) or sprint training.

Why is Human Growth Hormone Important?

HGH is a hormone produced in the pituitary gland whose primary purpose is to instigate a number of functions relative to aging. HGH is predominantly released in the night in microscopic pulses and by the age of 40 is reduced by at least a third of what the production was in our youth. With the help of HIIT, an increase in HGH could give the following benefits:

  • Increases Testosterone production
  • Improves immune function
  • Increased exercise performance
  • Better kidney function
  • Stronger bones
  • Younger, tighter skin
  • Fat loss
  • Higher energy levels and enhanced sexual performance
  • Regrowth of heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, and other organs that shrink with age
  • Greater heart output and lowered blood pressure
  • Improved cholesterol profile, with higher HDL (“good”) cholesterol and lower LDL (“bad”) cholesterol.
  • Hair regrowth (Maybe I need to do even more HIIT!)

As you can see, it’s kind off a big deal, and I’m sure anyone reading this would love to improve all of the above. So much so that supplement companies in recent times have jumped on the band wagon and are offering their own branded version of eternal youth in a bottle of pills.

As far as I am aware, not a single study has shown them to have any affect whatsoever largely due to the fact that HGH taken in pill form is rendered ineffective immediately after it comes into contact with our stomach acids.

Does HIIT Increase Testosterone and HGH ?

There has been a lot of research to determine if HIIT can actually increase Human Growth Hormone and testosterone with some very positive findings.

One such study by Hackney AC et al, compared a group of endurance trained males performing multiple bouts of sprinting on a treadmill against another group performing a 45m minute steady-state run. What they found was that the High Intensity Interval group had the highest increase in Free Testosterone.

Another study from Brunel university in 2003 states that a‘ number of physiological stimuli can initiate hGH secretion, the most powerful, non-pharmacological of which are sleep and exercise. Exercise training above the lactate threshold may amplify the pulsatile release of hGH at rest, increasing 24-hour hGH secretion’. Meaning that short bouts of intense training can increase HGH after the exercise and for up to 24 hours.

The most noteworthy study from Loughborough University compared the effect of a single 6 second and 30 second sprint on a stationary exercise bike and found a 450% increase in HGH after the 30 second sprint over the 6 second sprint.

Just in case you missed it the first time.

A single 30 second sprint raised HGH by 450% !

Shocking, I know.

Now I’m not saying that High Intensity Interval training is going to make you look like this.

muscle man

I think that would be a bit of a stretch even for supplement companies.

But if you train smart and incorporate High Intensity Interval Training into your fitness regime along with a clean diet and good sleep, you can increase your testosterone and human growth hormone levels and optimize your body to look and feel great no matter what your age.
